I wonder how much social media has changed the game? You mention FOMO. FOMO has always been there as a primary force in markets, but it was not called FOMO and certainly was not as intense. I suggest it was tempered with the sort of hindsight you exhibit in this article. That hindsight acts mostly as a negative feedback – holding your FOMO in bay; diluting it with a bit of “It ain’t that simple” wisdom from memory; your FOMO is tempered by FOMSMA (Fear of making the same mistake again).
If I am right, your younger colleagues are not building up that “been there, seen it, does/don’t work” memory that you rely on for your porridge and your work.
The 24 hour media blitzes stops you thinking about stuff; stops you analysing the situation you are in and comparing it with past ones; is so focused on the next minute/hour/month that your head is consumed with the future, and has no time to learn from today, let alone yesterday.

So… Is this me fantasising? or do you see this with younger colleagues? If even partially correct, you’ve thrown away the rudder and have to go where the wind takes you. Good luck :)
